Welcome to Allyship Is a Verb (Trailer)
Listen everywhere
Allyship isn't something you are. It's something you do, and this award-winning podcast helps you practice it.
Each guest episode is a candid conversation with an LGBTQ+ guest about their intersecting identities, from drag legends to trans dads to ace educators, mostly across the U.S. and sometimes beyond. Every guest leaves you with at least one allyship tip you can act on, and host Charlie Ocean adds self-reflection questions tailored to each conversation, so you're not just listening, you're doing the work.
Charlie Ocean, MSW (they/them) brings a background in LGBTQ+ training, speaking, community organizing, and technology. Follow Charlie on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Substack.
You may hear Charlie's former name in earlier episodes.

Chris Angel Murphy: Welcome to Allyship is a Verb, the LGBTQ+ podcast that explores and humanizes practicing allyship for the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. I'm the host, Chris Angel, and my pronouns are they/them. My background is in social work and community organizing. Even though I currently identify as queer, trans, and non-binary - at times, I can stumble awkwardly through situations such as new pronouns or learning new terms. That's why I'm inviting you to join me. Let's be accountability buddies. Let's create a safer space to practice and work on getting it right, together.
The show is a mix of mini episodes exploring brief tips and longer episodes to pass the mic to someone else who helps us to keep the conversation intersectional. The guests are a mix of LGBTQ+ people from my life and from the larger community. It's possible you may hear from people you know!
So, who is this for? Well, maybe you consider yourself to be an ally or want to be one and you feel as though you're not sure where to start. Maybe you have made some mistakes so far, that you're aware of, maybe some you're not aware of. Maybe you don't know what you don't know! Whether you're part of the LGBTQ+ community yourself or someone wanting to generally know specific ways to show support, this podcast just might be for you.
Whenever possible, the action items will be in a positive or affirming format. However, sometimes the conversation might get crunchy. In those times, it's something we may have to unlearn and it can be hard feedback to face. Remember, when those moments come up, we're in this together.
